Sheraton Imperial Hotel Kuala Lumpur
It was December 2021 when my family and I went to Kuala Lumpur for a stay at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel in Jalan Sultan Ismail for a two-night stay. My family consists of 2 adults, an elderly mother using a walking stick, and an aunt in a wheelchair. We were in KL for a holiday while visiting relatives in Petaling Jaya.

The Hotel
It was our first time staying here and went on the 1st day of its reopening. The moment I stepped out, was greeted by a staff who knows me by the name. I mean, I’m a nobody – I don’t travel luxe, not famous so to be greeted like that makes me feel special. Each staff at the hotel is super friendly and helpful, even the security guard helped with the wheelchair. The staff at Mandara SPA staff knows me by name as well and treated us ever so kindly. Essence restaurant staff came to check on us & the food and for some chit-chat. I feel like they’re all my friends.
I requested a connecting room and was allocated a King and twin room which was great. I think it was the cheapest room type but was surprised by how large it was. No special view, just the rooftop of Quill Mall but nothing to complain about since it gave us plenty of sunlight. The bed and pillows are just so comfy. They had a small walk-in closet with a whole lot of storage space.
The bathroom was also huge – separate rain shower and bathtub. However, for someone with mobility problems, the bathroom was a real challenge for us. There was no step at the door – good that we can just roll the wheelchair in but there is no stopping the access water from flowing freely into the room! The thing is, there was a step to enter the rain shower area, and it’s quite small so no chance a wheelchair can go in. My aunt couldn’t go into the bathtub, so we had to shower her in the wheelchair in the general area of the bathroom. There was no drainage on the bathroom floor except for a small one at the smallest corner behind the bidet. So the first time we used the bathroom for my aunt, we had to put towels upon towels on the door to stop the water.
We called for assistance from the housekeeping and luckily a lady came quickly to help clean. I requested for her to leave the rubber mop in the room as it was clearly needed. 1st night there was no hot water, and the rain shower was faulty (the handyman came to fix it on day 2). So as for my mom, I had to half-carry her in/out of the bathtub since her leg was not so strong. Understand that hotels may not have a lot of wheelchaired visitors but it was quite a tiring and dramatic experience every time my aunt had to use the bathroom.
Even with this problem, I’d give it 5 stars because I understand stroke patients don’t generally go out to hotels. Since it is my choice, the responsibility is on me. I am happy with my stay, the food at Essence restaurant was the main reason I stayed. I’ve been to this restaurant a couple of times pre-Covid and I missed it. Great food and not too crowded. The pool was big and warm with the KL Tower in view. The gym is big and has plenty of equipment. The lobby is huge with plenty of seats.
In conclusion, it was a great hotel and we enjoyed our experience here. It is totally recommended. At the point of me writing this, I’ve actually been back with my in-laws and they enjoyed the stay as much. Definitely will be back, again.
